Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. This memorial website was created in memory of Nolyn Chuon, beloved husband, son, grandson, brother, uncle and friend. Nolyn was born in Washington D.C. on July 9, 1970, and passed away May 14, 2004 at the age of 33. He is gone from our sight but remembered always in our hearts.
Nolyn was a huge NASCAR fan, loved fishing, swimming, running, computers, his cats and his family.
Nolyn was diagnosed with a "malignancy" in his lungs on January 12, 2003. The same weekend he was to be at Disney World running his first half marathon. He spent a week in Westside Regional while they tried to figure out what type of cancer he actually had. We traveled to MD Anderson first, then up to the Palm Beach Cancer Institute and finally to Indiana University Cancer Center before we were finally told what type of cancer he had.
Nolyn was diagnosed with Primary Mediastinal Germ Cell cancer, a very,very rare disease. Less than 500 men a year are diagnosed. Nolyn was given a 50/50 chance of remission with four hard rounds of chemotherapy; two of them being high dose with stem cell replacement. Sadly, the cancer became resistant to the chemo before the last transplant. He spent days and days in isolation in Indiana trying to get healthy enough to come home to Florida. We both were determined to find a cure for this awful disease, but sadly that wasn't in God's plan for him. Nolyn passed away in the ICU at Good Samaratin Hospital in West Palm Beach one week after returning from our one and only Caribbean cruise. I am so thankful that we were able to take that last trip together. I will have memories that will last me a lifetime.
I'd like to thank all our family and friends (especially those from Calvary Chapel and our bible study group) that assisted us during his illness as well as his wonderful physicians Dr. Harris and Dr. Einhorn. You will never be forgotton by myself or by Nolyn. Thanks for trying everything known to man to save him. He will remember what everyone did for him forever, and I know how much he appreciated the kindness you all showed to him. Thank you.

Nolyn will always be remembered for his love of children. He had three nieces, Bianca, Brooke and Paige. He loved them all and looked forward to spending time with them. Nolyn was in nursing school when he was diagnosed with cancer. Unfortunately, he was never able to graduate from school. He dreamed of us both becoming nurses and moving to Orlando. Nolyn was, for sure, going to work in Pediatrics....me I still don't know, but I graduate in December 2005 so hopefully I will decide by then. Graduation day will be special as I had just started my second term when he died. He made sure to tell my mom to make sure I go to school...and I did...somehow....I've made it this far. I know he is asking God to give me the help I need. Nolyn was that kind of person, always trying to help the helpless. Sometimes it was good, other times his kindness ended up hurting him. I hope you all remember him for his love and kindness. |
